The Honor Magic V5 has earned a Guinness World Record after lifting 104 kg using its Super Steel hinge, proving unmatched durability in the foldable smartphone segment.

Honor has officially raised the bar for foldable smartphones by setting a new Guinness World Record for durability. The company’s latest foldable, the Honor Magic V5, successfully lifted 104 kilograms while suspended by its hinge, demonstrating strength never before seen in a device this slim. The record was certified on August 1, 2025, in Dubai, during a live showcase attended by Guinness World Records officials.

A Foldable That Carried a Refrigerator

To secure the record, Honor engineers put the Magic V5 through a dramatic test. The phone was attached to a suspension rig by its hinge and tasked with lifting an 84 kg refrigerator plus 20 kg of weight plates, totaling 104 kg. Despite the intense load, the device held firm, securing its place in the record books.

This bold experiment addressed one of the biggest concerns consumers have with foldables: hinge durability. With this achievement, Honor not only proved the toughness of its design but also reinforced confidence in foldable technology as a whole.

Super Steel Hinge Delivers Aerospace-Level Strength

At the heart of this accomplishment lies Honor’s second-generation Super Steel hinge. Built with aerospace-grade materials, the hinge boasts a tensile strength of 2300 MPa, allowing it to endure extreme stress without bending or breaking.

Honor claims the hinge has been tested to withstand over 500,000 folds, ensuring reliability for years of daily use. Even with such resilience, the Magic V5 remains exceptionally thin measuring 8.8 mm folded and only 4.2 mm when unfolded, with a lightweight build of 217 grams.

Combining Elegance with Endurance

Speaking about the achievement, Ingmar Wang, Vice President of Honor Middle East and Africa, emphasized that durability was a cornerstone of the Magic V5’s development. “We wanted to ensure that the Magic V5 is not only thinner and smarter but also stronger than any foldable device before it,” Wang stated during the event.

This philosophy sets the Magic V5 apart in a market where most ultra-thin foldables are perceived as fragile. By proving it can handle extreme conditions, Honor is positioning its latest foldable as both a premium lifestyle product and a benchmark for durability.

Global Launch Coming Soon

The Honor Magic V5 has already been introduced in China and is set for its global launch on August 28, 2025. With its Guinness World Record now part of its identity, the device is expected to attract strong interest from consumers who value both innovation and reliability.

By achieving what no other foldable has before, the Honor Magic V5 demonstrates that foldable smartphones are no longer just futuristic concepts they are durable, dependable devices ready for everyday life.
