iPhone Redesign: Apple is working on three major iPhone redesigns across 2025, 2026, and 2027, including an ultra-thin iPhone Air, the company first foldable iPhone, and a futuristic curved-glass anniversary model.
Apple is getting ready for something bigger than just the usual speed boosts and camera tweaks. Whispers from inside the company hint at a series of bold changes that could completely reshape the iPhone we know today. Instead of small, gradual updates, the next few years may bring designs that feel fresh, surprising, and unlike anything Apple has done in a long time.
2025-iPhone 17 Air sets a new slim record
The first redesign will arrive in September 2025 with the iPhone 17 Air. This model is expected to be just 5.5mm thick, slimmer than the iPhone 6, which currently holds the record at 6.9mm.
To achieve this ultra-thin form, Apple may need to scale back on some features. The Air is rumored to ship with a smaller battery, a single rear camera, and no physical SIM slot, moving entirely to eSIM. It is also expected to debut with Apple C1 modem, which first appeared in the iPhone 16e.
The Air will replace the Plus model in Apple lineup, and other iPhone 17 models may also receive refreshed back designs and new colors, including a striking orange finish for the Pro.

2026-Apple foldable iPhone, codenamed V68
Apple is expected to finally enter the foldable market with a device reportedly codenamed V68. This iPhone will unfold like a book into a tablet style display and fold back down into a standard phone size.
The foldable will include four cameras two on the back, one on the cover screen, and one inside. Prototypes are being tested in black and white finishes, and the device is tipped to run on Apple second-generation C2 modem, replacing Qualcomm hardware.
It is rumored to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Its thickness could measure around 9mm to 9.5mm folded and 4.5mm to 4.8mm unfolded, making it slightly bulkier than Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Apple is expected to use in-cell touch panel technology to minimize the crease while improving touch accuracy. Touch ID could also return, offering easier unlocking in both folded and unfolded modes.
Positioned above the Pro Max, the foldable will likely carry a premium price tag, with analysts suggesting it could exceed $2,000.

2027- a futuristic anniversary iPhone
For the iPhone 20th anniversary in 2027, Apple is said to be preparing a bold curved-glass iPhone. The design would feature glass that seamlessly wraps around the edges, moving away from the sharp flat look that has defined recent models.
This anniversary edition is also expected to debut alongside iOS 26 new Liquid Glass interface, which will emphasize translucent, fluid visuals that blend naturally with the curved hardware. Together, the hardware and software could create one of the most futuristic iPhone experiences yet.

Why Apple is making bold moves
For the last several years, iPhones have mostly seen incremental updates: faster chips, improved cameras, and better battery life. But with upgrade cycles slowing and rivals pushing more experimental designs, Apple is preparing to make bigger moves.
With the ultra-thin Air in 2025, the foldable V68 in 2026, and a glass wrapped anniversary edition in 2027, Apple is setting up three straight years of eye catching redesigns. For customers, that means whichever year they choose to upgrade, they will get an iPhone that not only runs faster but also looks and feels brand new.
