Qualcomm next flagship chip is breaking records, with leaks showing over 4 million points on AnTuTu, raising expectations for unmatched performance and leaving users curious whether it will be called Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
Qualcomm appears torn between “Snapdragon 8 Elite 2” and “Snapdragon 8 Gen 5” as the official name. That confusion stems from conflicting leaks and naming patterns in the Gen series.
This chip reportedly exceeds 4 million points on AnTuTu, a massive leap over today’s top‑tier mobile silicon, which typically scores between 2.5 and 3 million.
Earlier indicators placed the score closer to 3.8 million based on first benchmarks. That number came from a leak citing improved cores and use of TSMC’s N3P three‑nanometer process.
The leaked CPU configuration leans on Qualcomm second‑generation Oryon cores, possibly in a 2‑prime + 6‑performance arrangement. GPU duties fall to the fresh Adreno 840, clocked notably higher than its predecessor.
Samsung is said to get an exclusive “for Galaxy” variant with even faster prime cores estimated around 4.74 GHz offering a temporary performance edge for S‑series devices.
Qualcomm may hold firm on pricing. A report suggests their new flagship may not cost more than the previous generation, easing pressure on manufacturer budgets.
It is worth noting that naming chaos is not new. Qualcomm’s sequence has jumped from Gen3 to Elite (implicitly Gen4), and now possibly back to “Gen 5.” Critics argue this undermines clarity.
Performance is rumored to be astounding , but official details especially the final name are expected during the Snapdragon Summit scheduled for late September.
