Samsung Display will begin mass production of OLED panels for Apple’s MacBook Pro in Q2 2026, with 14-inch and 16-inch models expected to launch by year-end.
Samsung Display will manufacture 14-inch and 16-inch OLED panels, with an expected production volume between two million and three million units. These panels are planned for the MacBook Pro series, which is anticipated to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Prototype production for the new OLED panels will begin later this year at Samsung’s A6 facility in Asan, South Korea. This advanced Gen 8 OLED factory will handle mass production by mid-2026.
The A6 plant has a monthly capacity of 15,000 substrates, translating to up to 10 million 14-inch OLED panels annually. One of the two available production lines, each capable of handling 7,500 substrates monthly, will be dedicated to MacBook panels.
Apple has developed new components tailored for these OLED displays. However, industry sources note that any mismatch in performance expectations could result in delays. Related parts are expected to enter production in the first quarter of 2026.
Samsung Display remains the sole supplier for these MacBook panels, though the company is also in discussions with other PC makers to utilize additional capacity from its factory. Expanding supply to other partners could allow Samsung to optimize costs while maintaining strong production output.
The introduction of OLED technology marks a significant step forward for Apple MacBook series, promising improved visuals, deeper contrast, and enhanced energy efficiency compared to current LCD-based models. With Samsung Display leading production, the new MacBooks are positioned as premium offerings in Apple’s product portfolio.
