OriginOS 6: Vivo has officially confirmed that its new software, OriginOS 6, will no longer be limited to China. The Android 16-based system will launch globally on October 15, 2025, ending the long-standing split between OriginOS in China and FuntouchOS on international devices. This marks the first time Vivo will abandon Funtouch OS overseas in favor of its flagship platform.

The company announced the news through its official X and Weibo accounts, calling it the start of a “new era of mobile OS.” Ahead of the worldwide rollout, OriginOS 6 will first be unveiled in China on October 10 during Vivo’s annual Developer Conference.

Key launch dates

OriginOS

Vivo has set a three-part schedule for the launch. On October 10, OriginOS 6 will be officially introduced in China. On October 13, the Vivo X300 and X300 Pro will debut as the first smartphones to ship with the new software. Finally, on October 15, Vivo will host its global launch event, where it is expected to confirm rollout timelines and availability for international markets.

This staged rollout ensures that both Chinese and global users are included in what Vivo calls a complete shift to a unified platform.

Transparency and comfort-driven design

Vivo says that OriginOS 6 was designed around the idea that users spend hours every day looking at their screens. To reduce eye strain while enhancing visual detail, the company developed a new “dynamic transparent material”. Unlike traditional matte designs that often dull colors and blur text, this new approach uses a proprietary dynamic background color algorithm to keep text sharp while adding depth and texture to colored areas.

To further refine the look, Vivo introduced a three-layer shading system and an anti-water ripple algorithm, which brighten colors and smooth pixels in real time. These technologies create a more natural blur effect that works across both full-screen backgrounds and localized textures. The result is an interface that feels transparent and alive, while remaining comfortable for long-term use.

Beta program already underway

Vivo has also opened a closed beta program for OriginOS 6 ahead of its full release. Applications are open until October 6, with 2,000 participants per model being recruited. Eligible devices include the Vivo X Fold5, the entire X200 lineup (including Pro, Pro mini, Ultra, and satellite edition), and several iQOO models such as the iQOO 13 and Neo10 series.

Testers report that motion effects and animations feel significantly smoother compared to OriginOS 5, with the new transparency features standing out in daily use.

What this means for Vivo users

The global rollout of OriginOS 6 is one of Vivo’s most important software milestones yet. By unifying its OS across regions, the company is not only simplifying updates but also promising a more polished experience that blends performance, design, and comfort.

With the China reveal on October 10 and the worldwide launch on October 15, users everywhere will soon find out how Vivo’s bold software vision translates into everyday use.
