If you love taking clear and detailed photos, the upcoming Honor Magic8 Ultra could be the phone for you. Reports from China say it will focus on powerful camera performance with a 200MP periscope lens and a new OmniVision OV50R sensor. Together, they could make it one of the best camera phones of early 2026.

While the upcoming Honor Magic8 and Magic8 Pro have been the subject of numerous leaks, details about the higher-end Magic8 Ultra have remained scarce. A new rumor out of China claims that the Ultra will stick with a triple rear camera setup, similar to the Magic7 Pro. Tipster Smart Pikachu also reiterated that the Ultra variant will come with a new 200MP sensor for the telephoto camera, while the main rear camera will use an OmniVision sensor setting a new benchmark for image quality and versatility.

The OV50R is a 50MP sensor built on a 1/1.3-inch format with 1.2µm pixels, supporting 4K triple-channel HDR and 10–14 bit RAW output. It uses innovative LOFIC (Lateral OverFlow Integration Capacitor) technology to convert light into electrical signals, producing sharper details and saturated highlights. The sensor also offers around 20% better power efficiency, which can extend battery life during intense photography sessions.

All models in the Magic8 lineup including the Ultra will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, ensuring faster image processing, improved AI performance, and smoother multitasking. The Magic8 and Magic8 Pro are expected to launch later this month in China, while the Magic8 Ultra and a smaller Magic8 Mini are reportedly set to debut in early 2026.
