Apple Foldable iPhone: Apple’s first foldable iPhone, rumored as the iPhone Fold, might not launch until 2027 as the company perfects its hinge and display design.
Imagine an iPhone that opens like a book, with a big smooth screen inside and a bright display on the outside. That is the idea behind Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Fold. But new reports say the wait could be longer than expected; the launch might slip to 2027 instead of 2026.
Why the Delay?
Apple reportedly needs more time to finalize the hinge, the most challenging part of the design. If production does start in 2026, the company may only make 5 to 7 million units, far below its original goal of 10 to 15 million. The company is testing several hinge prototypes to ensure the fold feels seamless and lasts for years without creases or noise.
Interestingly, newer reports suggest the hinge could end up being cheaper than expected, but durability and precision remain key obstacles. True to Apple’s style, it would rather take longer than release something that feels unfinished.

What to Expect
The iPhone Fold is said to feature a 7.58-inch folding display and a 5.38-inch cover screen, both using LTPO OLED panels with Color-on-Encapsulation (CoE) for better brightness and efficiency. The panels are expected to come from Apple’s trusted suppliers with years of experience in OLED technology, helping ensure a high-quality result once production begins.
Why Waiting Makes Sense
Foldables from other brands still face issues like creasing and hinge wear. Apple wants to eliminate those problems before launch. By 2027, the iPhone Fold could set a new standard for durability, design, and software experience the kind of polish Apple fans have come to expect.
So yes, the wait might be long, but when Apple finally folds, it plans to do it right.
