Apple has officially unveiled the AirPods Pro 3, confirming a major leap forward in health, fitness, accessibility, and sound quality. The new earbuds were announced alongside the iPhone 17 lineup, and Apple is calling them the company’s most advanced AirPods yet.
Health and hearing features
AirPods Pro 3 include a built-in hearing aid mode for the first time. This comes with two core functions: a Hearing Test that tailors audio based on your hearing profile, and Hearing Protection that sets smart limits to protect against loud environments. Apple has also embedded a heart-rate sensor inside the earbuds, enabling ear-based heart-rate tracking during workouts and at rest. Together, these features deepen Apple’s push into personal health and accessibility.
Best fit and sound yet
Apple is marketing these as the best-fitting AirPods ever. A redesigned shell combined with a new multi-size ear-tip system ensures a more secure seal for a wider range of ears. That seal directly contributes to Apple’s bold claim of the world’s best Active Noise Cancellation. Performance has doubled compared to AirPods Pro 2 and is four times stronger than the original AirPods Pro. A hardware redesign with feed-forward mics, internal mics, pressure-balancing vents, and tighter acoustic geometry underpins this massive ANC leap. Apple also touts “extraordinary sound quality,” hinting at new drivers and upgraded audio compute.
Workouts and live translation
Fitness enthusiasts get a deeper iOS workout experience with coaching cues and real-time voice prompts delivered directly in-ear, alongside new hooks into the Fitness app. AirPods Pro 3 also support two-way, in-ear Live Translation when paired with an iPhone, confirming that the earbuds are fully integrated into Apple’s real-time translation UI, not just the phone interface.
Battery, durability, and sustainability
The earbuds deliver up to 8 hours of playback with ANC on and 10 hours in Transparency with Hearing Aid mode. They are now rated IP57 for dust and water resistance, making them more durable for workouts and outdoor use. On the sustainability front, Apple says the charging case uses 65% recycled plastic, part of its larger environmental goals.
