Huawei nova Flip S:Huawei’s nova Flip S debuts in China with a 6.94-inch LTPO OLED display, SGS-certified hinge, 50 MP RYYB camera, HarmonyOS 5.1 features, and 66W SuperCharge. The phone starts at ¥3,388 and comes in six vibrant colors.

Huawei has launched its new foldable phone, the nova Flip S, in China. It comes with a stylish design, smarter AI features, and improved durability. The phone builds on last year’s nova Flip with better performance, fresh colors, and a more affordable starting price of ¥3,388 (about $475) for the 8/256GB model.

Durable hinge with SGS certification

Huawei’s tagline “Opens and closes smoothly, reliable at all times” highlights the brand’s focus on engineering reliability into the nova Flip S. Its precision hinge is built to withstand years of folding and unfolding, backed by SGS certification for 1.2 million folds. This level of testing ensures smooth motion and long-term stability, giving users confidence in daily use.

Sleek design and dual OLED displays

The nova Flip S features an aluminum alloy frame available in both glass (199 g) and vegan leather (195 g) finishes. It measures just 6.9 mm when open and about 15.1 mm when folded, maintaining an ultra-slim form factor. The design strikes a balance between elegance and practicality, making it one of the sleekest foldables available in its price range.

Color options for the nova Flip S include Feather Black, White, Azure Blue, Green, Soft Pink, and Star Black, giving buyers a wide selection of stylish finishes.

The inner screen is a 6.94-inch LTPO OLED display with FHD+ (2690 × 1136) resolution, 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, 1440 Hz PWM dimming, and 300 Hz touch sampling. Huawei’s Display Turbo 2.0 enhances color accuracy and realism, while Super Vision, AI HDR, and Touch Turbo 4.0 optimize performance for videos, photography, and gaming.

The cover screen measures 2.14 inches (480 × 480, 318 ppi) and supports up to five touch points, allowing users to preview selfies, check notifications, and interact with widgets without opening the phone.

Advanced camera setup with AI portrait engine

The nova Flip S comes with a 50 MP Ultra-Sensing RYYB main camera featuring a 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/1.9 aperture, complemented by an 8 MP ultra-wide macro camera (f/2.2, 112° FoV). On the front, a 32 MP ultra-wide selfie camera (f/2.2, 90° FoV) supports 4K video recording, making it perfect for vlogging and video calls.

Both front and rear cameras support 4K recording and 720p at 480 fps super slow-motion, while the upgraded DaVinci Portrait Engine 2.0 refines portraits with AI-driven adjustments in shape, texture, color, light, and shadow delivering natural, lifelike portraits.

HarmonyOS 5.1 and AI-powered features

The nova Flip S runs HarmonyOS 5.1, Huawei’s newest operating system infused with AI. Users can enjoy features such as AI Erase, smart screenshots, Live Window, cover-screen pets, interactive themes, Huawei Share, and voice control. Navigation can be handled through gestures or on-screen keys.

Huawei promotes the nova Flip S with the headline “HarmonyOS AI fun new ways to play,” highlighting creative and interactive experiences powered by the company’s intelligent ecosystem.

Battery, performance, and connectivity

Powering the nova Flip S is an unnamed Kirin 8-series processor, rumored to be the Kirin 8030, which replaces the Kirin 8000 found in last year’s nova Flip. The new chip is expected to deliver improved performance and efficiency.

The device includes 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. A 4,400 mAh (typical) battery supports 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge (11 V/6 A), capable of charging fully in about 40 minutes under lab conditions. Wireless charging is not supported, but reverse wired charging (5V/1A) allows users to charge smaller devices.

Connectivity includes dual-SIM dual-standby, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax), Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and full satellite positioning with GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC. The nova Flip S also offers stereo speakers, USB-C digital audio, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor with face unlock.

Price, packaging, and availability

Each nova Flip S box includes the phone, a 66W SuperCharge adapter, USB-C cable, clear soft case, SIM ejector tool, and a pre-applied screen protector. Huawei lists the device as “life waterproof,” meaning it offers splash resistance but lacks a certified IP rating.

The nova Flip S is priced at CNY 3,388 ($475) for the 8/256GB version, positioning it as one of the most affordable foldable phones in China. A 512 GB model is also available for users who need extra storage.

Familiar design, new colors, and better value

As the name suggests, the nova Flip S is an evolution of the nova Flip launched in August last year. While it retains the same core design and specifications including the 6.94-inch LTPO OLED display, 2.14-inch cover screen, and 4,400mAh battery with 66W charging Huawei has refreshed the model with new colors and a more aggressive starting price.

This update gives Huawei a stronger foothold in China’s fast-growing flip foldable market. With its blend of premium design, reliable hinge mechanism, and smarter HarmonyOS 5.1 software, the nova Flip S offers flagship quality at a mid-range price, an appealing combination for users looking to try a foldable without spending too much.
