Apple is set to launch the iPhone 17 lineup on September 9 (tomorrow, 10 AM PT / 10:30 PM IST), but a new certification leak has already revealed a big upgrade battery life. The filings confirm not just capacities but also voltages, energy ratings, suppliers, and a notable regional twist, with U.S. eSIM models getting more capacity than their SIM tray counterparts.

The leak comes from a Chinese certification filing, first shared on X (Twitter) by leaker @VNchocoTaco. The documents reveal the exact battery sizes for each iPhone 17 model and point out a key difference between regions. In the United States, Apple is moving fully to eSIM-only phones, while in China, models still include a physical SIM tray. That small design change makes a big impact by removing the SIM slot, Apple has freed up more room inside, giving U.S. models up to 6.6 percent more battery capacity compared to their Chinese counterparts

Leaks suggest that Apple is working with several battery suppliers, including Desay, Sunwoda, Huapu Technology, and Dongguan NVT Technology, with safety approvals granted between May and June 2025. All of the listed batteries meet the China GB 31241-2022 lithium-ion safety standard, ensuring reliability.

All iPhone 17 models will see larger batteries compared to the iPhone 16 series, but the most dramatic jump belongs to the iPhone 17 Pro, which gains 18.7% more capacity than last year iPhone 16 Pro.

Paired with the upcoming A19 chip and the smarter iOS 26 power controls, these larger batteries could finally give iPhone users the peace of mind they have been waiting for especially with the Pro Max, which passes the 5,000mAh milestone for the first time in iPhone history.
