Lenovo’s new Legion Go 2 takes handheld gaming to the next level. With a sharp OLED display, more storage, and a stronger 74Wh battery, it is built for longer sessions. The new Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip adds extra power for modern games. At $1,099, though, this handheld is clearly aimed at serious players.
OLED screen with wide VRR support
The biggest change is the move from LCD to OLED. The new display measures 8.8 inches and comes with a 1920 × 1200 resolution and a 30–144Hz variable refresh rate (VRR). That makes gameplay smoother, especially when frame rates hover in the low 30s, since the screen adapts rather than stutters. Most VRR panels only go as low as 48Hz, so Lenovo’s choice of 30Hz puts it ahead of rivals.

While the resolution is lower than the first model’s 2560 × 1600 screen, the change eases the workload on the hardware, making modern games run more consistently. Paired with OLED’s deep blacks, rich colors, and immersive contrast, it is one of the best screens you will find on a handheld device. Touch input remains supported, making it easy to navigate Windows 11 when the controllers are removed.
AMD Z2 chips and expanded storage
Powering the Legion Go 2 is AMD’s new Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme processor, paired with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM and 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. For those who need even more space, a microSD slot supports another 2TB, offering flexibility for growing libraries of AAA and indie titles.
AMD has positioned the Z2 series as more of an evolution than a breakthrough, but paired with the more efficient display setup and VRR, players can expect smoother real-world gaming than the raw numbers suggest.
Bigger battery and chunkier design
Battery life has seen a major boost. The Legion Go 2 packs a 74Wh battery, more than 50 percent larger than the 49.2Wh unit in the original. Lenovo includes a 65W Power Delivery charger, and charging is supported through both top and bottom USB-C ports, which also double as DisplayPort 2.0 outputs for connecting to external displays.

To fit this bigger battery and a stronger cooling system, the Go 2 is thicker and heavier. With controllers attached, it measures 11.64 × 5.38 × 1.66 inches and weighs 2.03 pounds, up from 1.88 pounds on the original.
Improved TrueStrike controllers
The TrueStrike controllers have been reworked for comfort, with rounded grips, a redesigned pivot-style D-pad, and Hall effect joysticks that resist drift. They still support FPS mode, letting the right controller function like a vertical mouse, now with a sturdier lock to keep the mouse pad secure. Lenovo also added three programmable buttons and a fingerprint reader in the power button for quicker logins.
As for connectivity, ports remain the same: two USB-C ports (top and bottom), a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and the microSD slot.
Price and release date
The Legion Go 2 starts at $1,099.99 for the Ryzen Z2 model with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Higher-end models climb to $1,479.99 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, 32GB RAM, and 2TB storage. That is far above the $749.99 launch price of the original, but Lenovo is keeping the cheaper Legion Go S with SteamOS at $830 for those who want solid performance at a lower price. The Legion Go 2 launches in October 2025, where it will go head-to-head with competitors like the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X and MSI Claw A8.
