Meizu has officially launched the Meizu 22, a compact flagship phone that brings powerful hardware and advanced software to a smaller body. Starting at ¥2999 (around $410 / €385), it offers a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen, a large 5510 mAh battery, and a “four-main-camera” system where every lens is 50 megapixels.

A screen made for brightness and smoothness

The Meizu 22 features a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with a 2670 × 1200 resolution. It supports refresh rates from 1 Hz to 120 Hz and a 2160 Hz instant touch sampling rate for faster response in games. Brightness is one of its strongest points, reaching 6000 nits peak and 1800 nits across the full screen. The equal-width bezel design is only 1.2 mm on all sides, giving it a 94.6% screen-to-body ratio. Despite the large display, the phone stays compact at 152 × 71 × 8.15 mm and 190 g.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 with real performance gains

Inside, the Meizu 22 runs on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 built on a 4 nm process. It reaches up to 3.21 GHz and uses an Adreno 825 GPU. Qualcomm claims notable improvements compared to the last generation, with CPU performance up 31%, GPU performance up 49%, AI processing up 44%, and GPU efficiency improved by 39%. The device can be configured with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, while a 4500 mm² vapor chamber cooling system helps keep temperatures stable.

Four 50MP cameras that work like mains

Meizu describes the phone as a “four-main-camera” device because every sensor carries 50 megapixels, including the selfie camera. The rear system includes a 50 MP OV50H main camera with OIS, a 50 MP Sony IMX882 telephoto with 3× periscope zoom and tele-macro support, and a 50 MP OV50D ultra-wide lens with a 122° field of view and macro focus at 2.5 cm. On the front, a 50 MP OV50D sensor with a 90° wide angle handles selfies.

The system supports RAW Night, RAW HDR, and Portrait with five “golden focal lengths” (24 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 85 mm, 100 mm). Live Photos can be shared on platforms like WeChat, Weibo, LittleRedBook, and Douyin. AI gallery tools handle de-reflection, glare reduction, motion blur removal, moiré cleanup, AI upscaling, and style-filter extraction. A Film Simulation feature, as well as extra multitasking and gaming features, will arrive through OTA updates.

Battery life built for long days

Powering the phone is a 5510 mAh silicon-carbon battery. It supports 80 W wired charging, 66 W wireless charging, and 10 W reverse wireless charging. Meizu says the battery can reach 50% charge in around 23 minutes. The company also claims up to 11.18 hours of daily use and nearly 24 hours of video playback on a single charge.

Built to last with tough protection

Durability is another strong point. The Meizu 22 comes with IP68 dust and water resistance, and the company also highlights TÜV-tested IP66 + IP68 certification for added protection against high-pressure sprays. For security, it uses the ultrasonic mTouch 2.0 fingerprint sensor and face unlock. Stereo speakers, an X-axis haptic motor, NFC, IR blaster, and wide 5G band coverage add to the overall premium package.

It is worth noting that only the top 16 GB + 1 TB model includes USB 3.2, DisplayPort 1.2 video-out, and UWB. Other variants are limited to USB 2.0.

Flyme AIOS 2 with smart assistants

On the software side, the Meizu 22 runs Flyme AIOS 2, which comes with several AI-powered features. The Aicy assistant supports deeper reasoning, natural conversation in multiple dialects, live translations during calls, and online search. Other AI functions include automatic call answering, note-taking with smart summaries, and AI-enhanced gallery tools. Some additional features like Film Simulation, upgraded Game Mode, and parts of Small Window 5.0 will be released later via OTA updates.

Price and colors

The Meizu 22 is available in three colors: Meizu White, Boundless Black, and Love Pink. Buyers can choose from 12/256 GB, 12/512 GB, 16/512 GB, and 16 GB + 1 TB storage options. Prices start at ¥2999 (~$410 / €385) in China. The first sales begin on September 17 through a limited live event.
