Meta Hypernova Smart Glasses

Meta’s first smart Hypernova glasses with a built-in display launch in September starting at $800, lower than the expected $1,000 price. The Hypernova model brings subtle on-lens visuals, improved cameras, and wrist-based controls, marking a big step toward mainstream wearable screens.

Meta is dialing back its margins to drive adoption, trimming the starting price well below earlier projections of over $1,000, a deliberate move to make the technology more enticing. Internally dubbed Hypernova, these smart glasses embed a tiny screen in the right lens that supports mini apps and alerts, and they are managed using a companion wrist controller.

The display is subtle meant for quick glances rather than full immersive visuals. Users can check messages, see incoming notifications, and view pictures without pulling out their phone, while the wrist accessory offers intuitive navigation via taps and swipes.

Bolstered camera hardware offers significant improvement, with image quality pitched closer to that of the iPhone 13. Meta also envisions further evolution: a future Hypernova 2 release in 2027 could feature dual displays for enhanced visual immersion.

Beyond Hypernova, Meta is expanding its smart eyewear lineup with Oakley collaboration models offering longer battery life, 3K video, fast-charging cases, and rugged, sporty design tailored for active users.

Meanwhile, the next third-gen Ray-Ban Meta glasses could arrive by late 2025, boasting face recognition, further battery improvements, and a Qualcomm AR1+ Gen1 chip with AI-powered memory assistance.

Meta seems to be testing location-aware notifications in these glasses that activate based on where the wearer is like reminders to add cheese when near a favorite deli or to check the weather when outdoors. While not officially confirmed, this geo-contextual alert system could become a differentiator in wearable functionality, blending AI vision cues with real-world surroundings.
