The brand shared a teaser video on Weibo showcasing both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max with a bold new feature called the Magic Back Screen. Built into the rear camera island, this secondary display is far more ambitious and looks much more practical than the tiny panels on older phones, making the back of the device useful for more than just cameras.

Magic Back Screen changes the design

The rear display can show watch faces, app info, and camera previews for selfies, turning the camera block into a tool rather than just a bump. Both the Pro and Pro Max feature the Magic Back Screen, while the standard Xiaomi 17 skips it. Xiaomi previously tried a rear display with the Mi 11 Ultra, but this time the screen is larger and designed for practical use.

Leica cameras with rear-screen support

Xiaomi continues its Leica partnership, equipping the 17 Pro with a 50MP triple camera setup: a main f/1.67 lens, a 5× 115mm telephoto, and a 17mm ultra-wide. The Magic Back Screen allows users to frame selfies or vlogs with the powerful rear cameras, making them more versatile than ever.

Powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite

Both models debut Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, promising gains in efficiency, gaming, and on-device AI. This puts Xiaomi’s flagships in direct competition with the Galaxy S25 and iPhone 17. The Pro is tipped to feature a 6.3-inch LTPO 120Hz display, while the Pro Max could scale up to 6.7 or 6.8 inches with 2K resolution. Reports also suggest ultrasonic fingerprint security and possible IP69 durability.

Bigger batteries, faster charging

The Xiaomi 17 Pro is expected to include a 6,300mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, while the Pro Max may offer up to 7,500mAh. The larger cells will help offset the power needs of the extra screen.

Launch this month

The Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max are set to launch this month with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, Leica cameras, and larger batteries. Leaks also mention thinner bezels and better camera performance. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra, however, is expected to launch in 2026 instead of arriving with this lineup.

With daring design, Leica optics, and next-gen Snapdragon power, the Xiaomi 17 Pro series looks ready to set a fresh benchmark for 2025 flagships.
