Vivo Y500: Vivo Y500 is now official with an 8,200mAh battery, 90W fast charging, triple IP68/69/69+ ratings, a 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, and Android 15. Check out full specs and details.

Vivo has officially pulled the covers off the Vivo Y500 in China, and it is already making waves in the smartphone world. The reason is simple this phone carries an enormous 8,200mAh battery, tougher protection than most mid-range devices, and modern hardware to back it up. The launch took place on September 1, 2025, at 7:00 PM CST (4:30 PM IST), confirming many of the rumors that surfaced in recent weeks.

A giant battery built for real use

The 8,200mAh battery is the biggest highlight of the Y500 and one of the largest ever in a Vivo phone. Unlike typical battery claims, Vivo has shared performance results from stress testing. The phone reportedly lasts 16.7 hours of video playback at –20°C and 17 hours of GPS navigation at 40°C, which shows how it can handle both freezing and scorching conditions. Even after 18 hours of heavy use, Vivo claims there is still 37 percent charge left.

To make that huge battery practical, the Y500 supports 90W fast charging that can fully recharge it in just 64 minutes. There is also a Bypass Charging feature, which allsows the phone to run directly on power while gaming, reducing battery wear and heat.

Tough design with triple protection

Vivo has put a big emphasis on durability. The Y500 carries IP68, IP69, and IP69+ ratings, making it resistant to dust, immersion in water, and even high-pressure water jets. This triple certification puts it ahead of most phones in its category.

The company also tested the Y500 for real world toughness. It earned SGS Gold Label five star drop and impact certification, survived 62,000 micro-drops, and withstood granite drop tests from 1.7 meters across all sides and corners. For users who work outdoors or travel often, this rugged build could be a game changer.

Bright display and solid performance

The Y500 sports a 6.77-inch micro-quad-curved AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 3,840Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort. Vivo says the display can reach a stunning 5,000 nits peak brightness, making it one of the brightest in its class and ideal for outdoor use.

The device runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, paired with either LPDDR4X or LPDDR5 RAM depending on the variant. Storage goes up to 512GB, ensuring enough space for games, apps, and media. Out of the box, the Y500 runs Android 15 with OriginOS 5, bringing smoother animations, more customization, and the latest Android features.

Cameras and other features

The Y500 comes with a 50MP main camera (GalaxyCore GC50F6 or Samsung S5KJNS sensor) and a 2MP depth sensor on the rear, supported by an LED ring flash. For selfies, it uses an 8MP OmniVision OV08D10 sensor inside a centered punch-hole cutout.

Despite the massive battery, the phone remains reasonably slim at 8.23mm thick and weighs 213g. Other features include NFC support for payments, though an IR blaster is not included.

Variants, colors, and availability

The Vivo Y500 comes in four configurations: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB. Buyers can choose between Glacier Blue, Dragon Crystal Purple, and Basalt Black color options. Pricing has not yet been revealed, but the phone is expected to land in the mid-range segment.

While the first launch is exclusive to China, reports suggest the phone could appear internationally under different branding, possibly as part of the Vivo T-series or iQOO lineup.

Why the Y500 mattersThe Vivo Y500 is not just another mid-range release it is a phone built for users who demand all day power and real toughness. With its massive battery, 90W charging, triple IP ratings, and military-grade durability, it sets a new benchmark for endurance phones in 2025. Whether for students, travelers, or outdoor workers, the Y500 looks like one of the most practical devices Vivo has ever built.
