Xiaomi 17: Xiaomi 17 launches as the first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phone with a 6.3-inch 1.5K OLED, Leica triple cameras, a 7000mAh battery, and 100W charging, starting at CNY 4,499 (~$630) in China.

The Xiaomi 17 is now official, and it is the first smartphone to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. It packs a huge 7000mAh silicon-carbon battery, a bright 6.3-inch OLED with ultra-slim bezels, and Leica-powered cameras. All of this comes in a lightweight and compact body, making it one of the most powerful small-sized flagships yet.

Compact design, big display

At 151.1 × 71.8 × 8.06 mm and 191 g, the Xiaomi 17 is designed for easy one-hand use, but the screen makes it feel much bigger. The 6.3-inch M10 LTPO OLED pushes a 1,220 × 2,656 resolution, supports 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh, and hits 3,500 nits peak brightness.

Thanks to second-generation LIPO packaging, the bezels measure just 1.18 mm on all four sides, giving the phone a striking 95.3% screen-to-body ratio. The display also features 12-bit color depth, DCI-P3 coverage, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR Vivid, and global DC dimming. An OLED circular polarizer and Xiaomi’s “Low-Power Super Sunlight Display” tech make it bright outdoors while remaining easy on the eyes.

Protection is handled by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass, and the frame is built from aerospace-grade aluminum. Color options include Black, White, Snow Mountain Pink, and Ice-melt Blue.

Performance with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Xiaomi 17 Performance

The Xiaomi 17 is the first phone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, built on a third-generation 3 nm process. The CPU peaks at 4.6 GHz, while the upgraded Adreno GPU and Qualcomm AI Engine bring faster gaming, graphics, and smarter on-device AI.

Xiaomi 17 Cooling

Thermal management is handled by a 4,497 mm² vapor chamber with a 3D ring-shaped cold-pump design. This system spreads heat more efficiently, keeping performance steady even during extended gaming sessions.

Memory and storage options include up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB UFS 4.1 storage, with the base model starting at 12 GB + 256 GB.

Battery and charging

Xiaomi 17 battery

The biggest highlight is the 7000mAh “Jinshajiang” silicon-carbon battery. With up to 16% silicon content and an energy density of 894 Wh/L, it offers serious endurance in a compact body.

Charging options include:

  • 100W Xiaomi Surge wired charging (PPS-compatible)
  • 50W Xiaomi Surge wireless charging
  • 22.5W wired and wireless reverse charging

Xiaomi’s Surge P3 charging chip and G2 battery-management system ensure fast, safe charging while preserving battery health. Xiaomi claims the battery can retain at least 80% capacity after 2,000 cycles.

Leica triple cameras and upgraded selfies

Xiaomi continues its partnership with Leica, giving the 17 a triple 50 MP camera system:

  • 50 MP main — 1/1.31″ Light Hunter 950 sensor, 23 mm equivalent lens, ƒ/1.67 aperture, OIS, and 2.4 μm fused pixels. Enhanced by Leica coatings and a 1G+6P high-transmittance lens.
  • 50 MP telephoto — 60 mm equivalent, ƒ/2.0, OIS, 2.6× optical zoom, and floating focus that can capture sharp macros from as close as 10 cm.
  • 50 MP ultra-wide — 17 mm equivalent, 102° field of view, ƒ/2.4 lens.

For video, the phone supports 8K recording at 30 fps and 4K at up to 60 fps with Dolby Vision.

The front camera has been upgraded to 50 MP with autofocus, a wide 90° FOV, and hardware-level HDR, capable of shooting 4K60 video.

Leica’s Summilux lenses, advanced coatings, and Xiaomi’s Master Portrait engine produce more natural skin tones, cleaner color, and better depth in portraits. Features like Leica Authentic/Vibrant modes, Motion Photos, Auto Super Moon, and Master Lens Pack enhance creativity.

Software and smart ecosystem

The Xiaomi 17 runs on HyperOS 3.
